Classic own-self created Denial of Service
A couple of days ago, I was about to blog how smooth is my usage of OpenDNS and to recommend the tool as an additional layer of protection from phishing etc.
But behold today, as I wanted to get into my Gmail account, I hit a problem, which is, OpenDNS deny me access to Gmail because it’s classified as a Webmail. Huh?
So I tried my Hotmail and Yahoo Mail but both is working, thank goodness.
Ok, here is the classic DOS that really disturb me that I should have white-listed Gmail in OpenDNS setting and this problem would have been prevented (maybe).
Anyway, I tried logging to OpenDNS to fiddle with the settings and oh-oh, I can’t login.
Either I changed my password and now I have forgotten it or it’s something else, which I think most likely I forgoten it.
But, no big deal, until I remembered that my default email is Gmail and the resetted password is sent to Gmail, Ooops.
Now, the only option I have is to go to a cybercafe and access my Gmail to retrieve the password to get into OpenDNS and change the settings. Wow!
Overall, I would rate OpenDNS is really a cool tool to have in your security bag of tools. The IP address resolved pretty quickly and you should really give it a try. But please, do make sure you do not make the same mistake as I did.
